Family and Collaborative Law

The toughest questions are always the hardest to answer. No two family law cases are the same, this makes giving exact answers to general questions difficult to explain in only a few sentences.

Below are our best efforts to explain some of the most common questions we receive from our clients:

The complexity and human element of each case makes this apparently simple question, impossible to answer. A “simple” dissolution of marriage may be as little as a few months. More complicated cases, involving children and vast marital assets, can take upwards of a year. With so many factors that effect the time toward settlement or trial, estimating is far from a science.

Family court actions are among the most emotional times in your life! Choosing your attorney shouldn’t be taken lightly for this reason, we encourage all of our clients to meet with more than one attorney. You are then poised to choose a firm you are comfortable with handling your case. With over 30 years of experience practicing family law, we are ready to do so.

There is a limit on the time in which you have to respond to the petition. Seeking out an attorney should be at the top of your list of to-dos. Ask around, your friends, family or loved ones may refer you to someone they trust or have hired in the past.

Unfortunately, the answer is dependent upon a number of factors and can be extremely difficult to forecast. Although, there are ways to dramatically reduce the overall cost of litigation if the parties are able find some common ground. The fact is, hiring an attorney who can find creative solutions to a case, as opposed to rushing to the court house, can ultimately save a family thousands of dollars in attorney’s fees (for both sides).
